goals for my Toshiba

March 28, 2008

The reason for this project is simple.  I Like to tinker and this tiny, ancient machine provides that opportunity. Tinkering with my primary laptop would be very stupid.

That being said my goal is to install Deli Linux on it.   Deli linux is designed to run on old machines and has a fairly helpful forum.

I would like to use this for some journaling during the times when my wife borrows my Acer Aspire 3680.

The Test Subject

March 28, 2008

The test subject is a Toshiba Portege 610 CT simular to the one  listed here Linux On Toshiba Portege 610CT.   The main difference is that mine only has a 512 megabyte hard drive.

 The Specs.

  • Pentium 90
  • 512 megabyte hardrive
  • 40 megabytes of ram
  • LCD Monitor

I have the external floppy and a Microsolutions Backpack CDrom drive.

My first step will be figuring out how to replace the hardrive as it has some bad sectors and I need something bigger.  I will dig through my pile of junk.  I am sure that I have at least a two gig laptop hard drive laying around somewhere.

Testing One, Two, Three

I am setting up this blog as an experiment.  My goal is for it to be totally technology related.   I have a goal to setup a very ancient Laptop that I own using linux while documenting the process.  More information  will follow in a latter post.
