Real Player

September 29, 2008

I Downloaded and installed Real Player 11 on my Ubuntu  Box.  I have been frustraited by the fact that every streaming radio station I listen to opens in a different player.  I only get to choose one of them.  I  hope that I can configure everything to play with real player.  I have fiddled with several others with less then perfect results.  Maybe I am just doing something wrong.

I will look at the others again soon just in case.

Real Player also gave me the opportunity to  install something that was not in the repositories.  The down load is a .bin file.  You have to change the properties to make it bootable and then run it from a terminal.

Searching for a blogging Client.

September 22, 2008

I have been searching for a cross platform blogging client that will work with both Live Journal and WordPress.  I  have concluded that there is not one.  I really like Live Writer so far.  It easily switches between different blogging sites and was very easy to set up.  Unfortunately it is Windows only.

I have tried Drivel and Blogtk on Linux.  Drivel works well with Live Journal but I could not get it to work with WordPress.  I will keep trying though as it seems to have lots of potential.  Blogtk did not impress me at all.

Testing

September 21, 2008

I am testing windows live writer.  I am not sure what I think of it.  Live writer is Part of the Microsoft Live suite of destop apps which includes windows Live Mail Desktop.  I have been using Live Mail desktop for several years.  I really like it.  I do wish that it was not windows specific though.

Switch again?

September 19, 2008

I switched back to Ubuntu for now.  I finaly got my cd in the mail and just had to install it.

So far I have tried several pieces of my hardware on linux and they have all worked pretty well.  These include my RCA Opel mp3 player, Panasonic Lumix digetal camera, and my Canon Canoscan LiDE 20 scanner.  All of them have worked out of the box

RCA Opel M4002 – detects as a removable drive.  Very easy to copy files onto player.  drag and drop in file manager.  Bought at Wal-Mart for 40 dollars.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 – detecs as removable drive allowing drag and drop copying from sd card.  Wife got new camera.  I got old.  Originaly from Walmart Price ?

Canon Canoscan Lide 20.  Works using Xsane.  Plugged in and ran Xsane and it scanned with no problems.  Eight dollars at the goodwill. (I tested it on my Windows Vista laptop before plugging it into my Ubuntu Desktop to make sure it functioned correctly.
