I am still stuck with a limited collection of tech. As far as computers go I have my netbook. An eeepc seashell. It is usefull in a very limited way. I have it set up to dual boot between windows 7 and Linux. Currently It is running lubuntu 11.10. In the last couple of weeks I have tried Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, and will soon be rejecting Lubuntu. I am thinking that it might be time to move to some other Linux Family. I might even succeed this time. I have tried moving to other distros before without much luck. I think this time will be different. I have begun to detest lots of the design choices that are going into Ubuntu. Unity Sucks big time. KDE 4 sucks also. I think I just like the more traditional desktop experience. That will probably rule out gnome 3 as well. I tried Xubuntu and too many things Just did not work. The Devil is in the details and most of the details in Xubuntu are just broken. Lubuntu is better but still has a bunch of very annoying details that don’t work quite the way they should. I am seriously thinking of using arch.
I like Arch Linux but have rejected it in the past because it takes so much time to configure to the point where you can actually use it to get work done. I know that has not changed so I will probably use a Arch derivative like ArchBang. Something that is all set up and ready to go. Archbang is just Arch with a desktop environment already installed. I don’t remember off the top of my head what desktop it uses but I can tell you for sure it is not gnome or kde. Lightweight on a netbook is the way to go.
Of course it might make more sense to go with Vanilla Debian as I mostly know how that works already. I will have to think about this some more.
