I downloaded Ubuntu Netbook Remix and copied it to a spare flashdrive. I am currently running it off of the flashdrive on my Acer Aspire One Net book. I like it. At this point it seems very useable.

September 27, 2009Windows 7 Experiment
September 15, 2009I am seriously thinking about doing away with windows 7. I am finding it to be very sluggish. That really irritates me. My computer has a 2.53 gig a hertz processor and 2 gig of ram. It should fly.
Dual boot configured
September 3, 2009Well I have my desktop computer running windows 7 and vector linux lite. Somewhere along the lines the lite version of vector linux ceased to be lite.
Linux decision
September 2, 2009I have decided to shave off about 4 gig off of the end of the drive on my desktop which is currently running windows 7 and install vector linux lite. I have to have a linux option. My computer just doesn’t feel right without it. I am currently downloading the iso on my laptops ubuntu install. I will probably burn it and perform the install tonight.
another windows 7 post
September 2, 2009I am still using and will continue to use windows 7 for a while. I am finding it to be just another version of windows though. Every time I boot it up I am tempted to nuke it and put linux back on my desktop. I think I am very hooked on linux.
Still Using Windows 7
September 1, 2009For the moment I am still using windows 7. It is not bad. I still don’t like the start bar. The only driver issue that I had was minor and easily fixed. Windows 7 give my computer a 1 out of 7. Based off of my low ancient video card I guess.
Windows 7
August 30, 2009With the memory upgrade in place I decided to try windows 7. I nuked my Linux install from my desktop computer and installed the beta. My first impressions are very mixed. So far it seems to be useable. I do like the default wallpaper. It is blue with a fish in the center … a beta. I don’t like the fact that I can’t change the start bar back to the classic view. The start bar that was introduced with XP is just too clunky. I will use it for a while and see what I think of it.
Desktop Memory Upgrade
August 29, 2009I just upgraded my desktop memory from 512 megs to 2gigs. So far everything seems to be working. I am glad that I finished that. I have had the memory sticks for about two weeks and just got around to putting them in. I am not sure why it took me so long to get around to it. It took less then five minutes to open up the case, remove the old stick, install the new ones and close it back up.
Back to ubuntu for now
August 24, 2009THe loss of my job necesitated that my computer be compleately usable. I got very frustraited with arch and having to install every little app so I went back to ubuntu. Ubuntu gives you all the applications that you need to get started.
Arch
July 22, 2009I am exprimenting with Arch Linux on my desktop. I don’t know that I will keep it for very long as it takes so much time and effort to get it to the point where you can actually use the computer. I have it close but it is not quite there.
Currently I have LXDE and firefox installed as far as X and it’s apps go. I tried dillo but it doesn’t do http mail without recompiling. I have sound in x but not in the console. Networking is running so I can acess the internet.
